Incorporating a Pop of Color into Your Boudoir Session

One of the most common things I hear from clients before their session is that they love black lingerie but want to incorporate a fun pop of color while still feeling like them. So often when people think “pop of color” they immediately think of bright colors like pinks, purples, and blues but…

Bright colors aren’t your only option!

If you’re someone that gravitates toward black, especially when it comes to your lingerie, there are so many good colors out there that you can incorporate into your boudoir look that are sexy and feel like you. After all, that’s the goal, right?

Incorporating a Pop of Color into Your Boudoir Session

My favorite way to incorporate a pop of color into your boudoir session in a way that you can still wear black lingerie is through your accessories, props, and makeup. Some colors I love that are sexy but add a little something to your boudoir photos are red, magenta, maroon, silver, and gold.

In Your Accessories

Outside of lingerie, you can add color to your boudoir session through your accessories. Think shoes, garter/garter belts, and additional layers like robes. Stay away from bright colors and gravitate towards dark tones like maroon. Not only will it blend seamlessly but it’s on the safe side when it comes to pops of color!

With Your Makeup

Instead of going for nude-colored lipstick, opt for a fun, sultry red or maroon. This not only will add a pop of color to your boudoir look, but it’ll also draw the eye to your lips. Lips are one of my favorite features of the body and red always makes them look more sultry.

A few favorite lip colors include Pat McGrath’s MatteTrance Lipstick in Vendetta, YSL Tatouage Couture Velvet Cream Liquid Lipstick in Club Bordeaux, and Charlotte Tilbury Matte Revolution Lipstick in Scarlet Spell.

Nail Color

Similar to lipsticks, a good way to add a pop of color to your boudoir session without gravitating away from black lingerie and accessories is with your nail color. Try to stay away from bright colors or designs that could be distracting and instead go for a sultry dark green (love this one!), bold red like this one, or something more safe like Malaga Wine by OPI.

Through Your Props

I am such a sucker for a good prop, they pull a boudoir look together and add a little something sexy to your final images. With props, you can pull in gold and silver tones and textures with chains, nipple clamps, collars, and spreader bars.

These also add color to your boudoir look without gravitating away from the dark tones that you feel most comfortable with.
