Creating Curves

One thing that every boudoir photographer strives for is creating curves. Our job is to highlight curves, make them appear larger or smaller, and just flatter our client’s bodies in the best way from head to toe.

One of my favorite ways to do that is by highlighting my client’s waist. Every one of us ladies loves the idea of a teeny tiny waist so giving your client that throughout her session should be a no brainer!

My favorite pose or trick for this is by having her bring her hands to her waist. Now, whenever you say this to a client, she will automatically place her hands on her hips (trust me, everyone does it!). This is vital to correct! The hips and waist are completely different parts of the body, and placing the hands on her hips can actually make her body appear a lot wider and more square in shape.

I always tell my clients to place their hands on their last rib - that is typically a good place to start so that they avoid putting their hands on their hips. This is also the smallest part of the waist and perfect for adding killer curves to any pose!

The image on the right shows clearly how far apart these parts of the body actually are. Placing hands at the waist will make a HUGE difference in the way your client’s curves stand out in photos. In the sample shown, my client is even wearing a chunky sweater and you can still clearly see her curves.

After this tip, I trust you will never have your clients place their hands on their hip again!
