Congrats on finally biting the bullet and booking your boudoir photography session! Your nerves might be starting to kick in, after all, it’s not every day that you take your clothes off in front of a complete stranger. My favorite way to get around those nerves? Focusing on what you can control (aka all the fun parts leading up to your shoot): what you’ll be wearing, how your makeup will look, and how you’ll be styling your hair.
When it comes to boudoir hair, the goal is to have fun, playful bedroom hair. Easier said than done, right? While I like to use any excuse possible to splurge and get my hair done, sometimes you just want to do it yourself!
Not sure how to style your hair for your upcoming boudoir session? Here are my best tips for boudoir-ready hair!
Once you decide on what you’ll be wearing for your boudoir session, it’s time to plan your hairstyle(s). I always recommend looking through Pinterest or scrolling through your photographer’s portfolio to figure out what styles you like and get inspiration.
Eliminate any stress on the day of your boudoir session by trying out hairstyles prior to your session. This will not only give you an idea of how much time it’ll take to achieve the look you’re going for, but it’ll also give you the time to figure out different styles or tackle any issues you might be having achieving your desired look prior to your session.
Remember, boudoir sessions involve more intense posing compared to other types of photography. You might be laying on your back, bending over, and putting your hands through your hair (just to name a few!) and your hair will most likely get messed up. This is the fun of boudoir, messy bedroom hair is only going to look sexier.
Voluminous hair tends to photograph better and if you need some extra volume day of, apply dry shampoo to your roots for some extra lift and tease your hair as needed!
The more confident you feel, the more it’ll show in your photos. If you’re more comfortable wearing your hair straight, wear it straight! If you feel more comfortable wearing it with braids, wear it with braids! There’s no right or wrong hairstyle for a boudoir session.
